Everything I bring to this work is intentional. Grounded in my lived experience, professional training, and a genuine belief that change is possible. I mean what I say and I believe I can help you.
It's important to me that we focus on what's happening now in your life that is causing emotional distress. I'll ask a lot of questions about your current circumstances, career, important relationships, and goals for your time in therapy with me.I also believe that how we grew up significantly impacts who we are today. We will talk about your family, the grown-ups in your life when you were young, your siblings, and important moments from your childhood. The goal of this early life exploration is not to blame caregivers for things that may have happened, but to begin to build a cohesive narrative or "life story".
I draw on several approaches depending on what you may need:
Psychodynamic: talking about the past and your family because it helps explain your present
Humanistic: I believe you have everything you need inside you to grow
Existential: we explore big questions, meaning, identity, and what matters
Internal Family Systems: we look at different "parts" that sometimes pull in different directions
My style of therapy is direct and change-oriented. I focus on supporting clients as they try new things, attempt to relate differently to their life and the people in it, and experience change. Therapy is an immense investment of time, money, and emotional energy and I want to honor your investment by offering honest feedback. I ask that you do the same with me.
Private Practice | Amelia Chambliss Therapy | 2023 to Present
In my private practice, I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating grief, life transitions, identity, and relational challenges. A significant focus of my work is with expat clients and families living abroad. Sessions are outpatient and conducted online or in person in Leiden.
Sage Hill Counseling | 2020 to 2023
I completed outpatient counseling sessions in the greater Nashville area, working from a humanistic, psychodynamic, and family systems perspective. I also co-facilitated weekly process groups for individuals working through interpersonal challenges.
AMOS Health & Hope | Managua, Nicaragua | 2015 to 2016
As a Monitoring and Evaluation Fellow, I worked with a healthcare organization serving low-resource communities in Nicaragua. This experience abroad shapes how I think about cross-cultural work and the unique challenges of living outside your home country.
